My new role as CFO of Kate Farms: Driving plant-based change in medical & consumer nutrition

I am excited to share that in May, I joined Kate Farms as CFO. Kate Farms makes organic, plant-based formulas and nutrition shakes and is now the number one most recommended by US healthcare providers. Our portfolio of nutritional shakes can be used as supplemental or sole-source nutrition for everyone from healthy people choosing high-quality nutrition to those with special nutritional needs, including tube-feeding and managing chronic conditions such as Crohn’s disease, kidney disease, diabetes, cancer or colitis. Unlike the legacy brands on the market, Kate Farms is free from corn syrup, dairy, common allergens and low-quality ingredients; instead designed for tolerance with easily digested organic pea protein, fiber, and a proprietary phytonutrient blend. Kate Farms is widely available online, in hospitals, through home care providers and by prescription.

Since leaving investment banking, I have had the incredible privilege of working for mission-driven companies. It is hard to put into words how invigorating it is to once again work for a company where the product is making a life-changing impact for our customers. I love how Kate Farms is leveraging the power of plant-based nutrition to serve a pioneering role in delivering nutrition to those who need it most. I have experienced the value of plant-based eating in my own life since my transition to an entirely plant-based diet in 2017. I made that transition because of my family history of cardiovascular disease, a desire to increase my athletic performance and recovery and a quest to eat in a globally sustainable way. The science and my own results are clear: plant-based eating does wonders for our health and our overall well-being.

Working at high-growth companies is challenging and demanding. The personal fulfillment of changing lives through a mission-driven organization is critical to staying focused and engaged when the going gets tough. At Kate Farms, I’m leveraging my experience in scaling growth companies in efficient and value-maximizing ways. As companies move from start-up to scale-up mode, it’s critical to navigate the challenge of focusing limited capital, people and resources on the right things given the seemingly endless number of opportunities that are available. It is essential for companies at this stage to implement the right processes and decision-making frameworks to maximize value through intensive focus and exceptional execution.

I am excited about the impact we are making at Kate Farms. Just a few weeks in, I am already energized by the incredible team, truly differentiated products and our compelling strategy to disrupt a segment of the nutrition industry badly in need of it. We have an exciting roadmap of life-changing products in the pipeline, and the next several months will see Kate Farms expand its focus on the direct-to-consumer market through our e-commerce business and pursue more distribution opportunities to create access for more people to buy Kate Farms products.
